Jim is a retired U.S. Air Force officer with more than 22 years of experience as a Financial Manager and Logistics Plans Officer. Jim worked his way from Airman Basic to highly decorated Major serving in tours as a technical instructor at the Air Force finance school, logistics plans officer at two tactical airlift wing’s, Commandant of Cadets and Assistance Professor at an ROTC detachment, two assignments as plans branch chief at HQ Air Combat Command, and Chief of Security Assistance at the U.S. Embassy in Ethiopia. As the senior Air Force representative in Ethiopia, Jim personally mediated a $6M cargo aircraft contract dispute between the governments of the U.S. and Ethiopia by facilitating diplomatic meetings between Ambassador Tibor Nagy and Prime Minister Meles.

Jim retired from the Air Force in 2001 to spend more time with his family, pursue his dream of earning his doctorate (Ph.D. awarded in 2006), and teaching at the collegiate level. He spent the next 12 years serving as Lecturer of African Cultures and managing a large peer-tutoring program at a small private college in Pennsylvania. In 2013, Jim left academia to pursue his true passion—writing.

Jim is an award-winning travel writer, having contributed over 200 articles to many high-visibility travel sites. In addition to writing about “everything travel,” he has also been a staff writer for education sites, writing dozens of articles on Advanced Placement test-prep and providing product reviews for prep courses like the GRE, MCAT, SAT, and LSAT. Over the past couple of years, Jim has come full-circle, returning to his roots—the military. He is a staff writer for militarybenefits.info, authoring over 60 articles on Veterans’ education benefits and topics of interest to Veterans, military spouses, and those who want to make the military their career.
